History

It was created in 1998 under Gordon Shenton and the current director is Julio Urgel. In the past seven years of existence the organization has accredited 105 institutions in 31 countries.

Object of the accreditation

The accreditation is given regarding mainly the general quality of a given business school activities and also the degree of internationalisation. In this respect EQUIS accreditation is more demanding than AACSB - so far all EQUIS fully accredited business schools applying for AACSB accreditation have succeeded, which has not been the case the other way.

EQUIS accreditation can be granted conditionally for 3 years (with annual progress reports required) or unconditionally for 5 years.
